Kitesurfing or Kiteboarding is taking the world by storm. One of the fastest growing sports is now available to you! Cape Sports Center is located on the safe shores of the Langebaan Lagoon and is a kiteboader’s dream. Clean, consistent winds and flat, warm waters make this South Africa’s premier kitesurfing destination and the site of SA’s leading kitesurfing school. The lagoon offers a perfect location to learn this sport and with our fully qualified IKO Instructors, Gaastra & Naish Kitesurfing equipment, organised infrastructure ( bar & coffee shop ) and ideal conditions where else would you want to go.
SURFING & STAND UP PADDLE BOARDING
Surfing is the oldest form of wave riding! Even though it is the oldest it is still the most popular! The Cape Sport Center is fortunate enough to be located near the mouth of the Langebaan Lagoon which allows you to be able to surf and body board in front of our center. This is a unique position as the waves which we get are not too powerful and have little or no currents. This location is therefore an ideal place for children and adults to learn how to surf or body board.
The rental equipment at the Cape Sport Centre ranges from our body boards, which are soft and child friendly, to the BIC surfboards which are durable and easy to learn to surf on. Rent or buy to get the ‘fun effect’ during your perfect holiday.
Not only is the wave friendly in front of the Cape Sports Center, it is ideal for Stand Up Paddling which has become a popular pass time for the locals! You are also able to rent SUP boards from the center.
Kayaking Come and explore Langebaan at a leisurely pace as you take a paddle on our lagoon. Whether for 2 hours or a day, discover the sights and sounds of the West Coast at its most beautiful. The Lagoon and surrounding waters offer some incredible paddling experiences and a host of flora and fauna can be seen.
The Lagoon is a RAMSAR site and is home to many flamingo’s, penguins, oystercatchers, whales, dolphins, along with nearly 25% of Southern Africa’s bird life. The waters of the Lagoon are not open to the extreme elements, so paddling on the Lagoon is easy and fun, and not to mention safe! It is an activity in which the whole family can partake in. The center has single and double kayaks for hire as well as life vests, neoprene shorts and wind breakers to make your paddling experience even more comfortable and enjoyable!

The warm waters of the lagoon attract some very strange fish to this area. The main “pan” fish is the White Stumpnose. From August to May they are really plentiful and most young anglers can experience the thrill of catching their first fish by catching a Stumpnose. They are also excellent eating, the second most common fish are Elf. They take quite a bit more effort to catch but the reward is definitely worth it as they are a good sport fish and excellent eating. Other fish that are regularly caught are Kob, Yellowtail and Geelbek.
